A player played a final against a top 10 player. Before the match, the coach looked at how the opponent serves on breakpoints and the data showed he serves wide on ad 2/3 of the time. So the player was told to cover Wide more. And then in the match, the player won the first set and was up 5-4 and he had his first and only breakpoint of the match. The player covered Wide and the opponent hit an ace down the T. The match turned from there.
Unfortunately for this player, his team looked at too few matches. Our 26 matches from 2017-19 (48 breakpoints), Indicated that the opponent not only favored T, and but that it was his best serve (81% pts won). Anything less than 15 matches will often provide inaccurate patterns, especially on break points.
